Over 150 Million Earrings lost in the UK, Women can now find a match to their lost earrings - a sentimental tale
LostEarring.co.uk is the result of a conversation I had with my husband a few weeks ago, He asked me why I didn\'t wear some earrings that he had bought me as a gift a short while ago.
I had to explain that I had lost one of the earrings and did not have the heart to tell him that I had lost it.
We had a discussion about how many other earrings I had, when I checked I found that I had quite a few missing earrings, there were 8 that had a sentimental value attached to them, trying to remember where they were bought from and checking with the shops all produced the same result - they were no longer available.
I checked with my sisters and as many friends as I could and discovered to my surprise that all of them had between 5 & 10 earrings that they could not wear because they had either lost one or one of them had been damaged. A high proportion of them had sentimental value as gifts on special occasions; they were all interested if we could only find a solution.
If only there was somewhere we could find someone else with a matching earring - even another pair if necessary, we checked on the internet and despite a thorough search, found that there was nothing available there either.
So we decided to look at the possibility of selling the ones that had no sentimental value and discovered that there is a huge market for single earrings, particularly for men, but also for women who wear multiple earrings.
The Birth of a new website It was at this point that we realised what an opportunity this was, not only could we help anyone who has lost an earring find a replacement, maybe even without having to admit to the loss to a loved one! We could also give anyone with an odd earring the opportunity to sell the earring and bring some joy to the recipient as well as some cash to themselves.
